Description

A village renowned for its floral displays and awarded the accolade of 3 flowers in the nationwide floral rankings, Oberhaslach is a charming village of 1800 inhabitants. Historically linked with its neighbour Niederhaslach, Oberhaslach is where the hermit Saint Florent came to live, close to the present-day Saint Florent chapel, which dates from the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries. But Oberhaslach’s fame is above all bound up with the Nideck castle and waterfall. Indeed, the legend of the Nideck Giants, made famous by the German poet Adalbert von Chamisso, makes it still to this day the object of curiosity for many visitors. The castle is not the only place to walk around and visit in the village. The ruins of Hohenstein, Petit Ringelstein, Grand Ringelstein, the Pfaffenlapp rock and the Stone Gate are other places that are much enjoyed by walkers in the area. The village has a baker, a co-op, a newsagent and tobacconist, a bank with ATM (Crédit Mutuel), a post office, a doctor, a hairdresser, a taxi and a travel agent.
