Description

This is a village with a long wine-making and farming tradition, which until quite recently was home to a community of Cistercian nuns. The lower section of the lateral bell tower of Saint Nicholas’ church dates back to the mediaeval period whilst the nave contains some interesting Baroque furnishings.Nearby are two chapels, the only remains of two villages which no longer exist: Altbronn and Rimlen. The chapel of Maria Altbronn, a former place of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary, which still continues today, can be found to the north of the village. To the east, Saint Michael’s chapel (12th century) reminds us of the hamlet of Rimlenheim which was lost in 1444.
