Description

Niederhaslash is a picturesque village of 1100 inhabitants at the entrance to the valley of the Hasel and by a large forest. In the centre of the village is its Gothic collegiate church dedicated to Saint Florent and built by Gerlach de Steinbach, the son of Erwin de Steinbach, architect of Strasbourg cathedral. Among the masterpieces to be found in the church are the magnificent XIIIth and XIVth century stained glass windows depicting scenes from the lives of, among others, Saint Florent, Jesus, the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist… In the antechoir visitors can meditate by the relics of Saint Florent, which were moved to Niederhaslach from Strasbourg in 810. 11 sports clubs and cultural associations provide much of the life of the village, including in particular the village fête on the first Sunday in July and the Fête de Saint Florent (entertainment and car-boot sale) held annually on the Sunday after the 6th of November. Niederhaslach is a village which also offers numerous opportunities for walks, rambles and horse riding, a pleasant place in which to relax or spend a holiday. It has a baker, a co-op and a pharmacy.
