Description

Welcome to L'église des Jésuites de Molsheim, and discover Sauveur Pascual "life is a perpetual exile!" Sauveur Pascual speaks of exile or exodus like no one else, seen through his childlike eyes. Leaving the land of one's birth, uprooting oneself from it, is not easy. We think of the biblical episodes of the Hebrews leaving Egypt and wandering in the desert for forty years, but also of the crossing of the Red Sea. For the artist, the beach, the place of play par excellence, becomes a virgin sanctuary. The threat of the ocean liner taking you far away is ever present, with its acrid, black fumes. Periods of insouciance are interrupted, transformed and remind us of this abduction from childhood and innocence. In shades of turquoise blue, black and white, sometimes red, the same scene is obsessively repeated and conjugated in all tenses. It's reminiscent of a film you'd watch over and over again to understand the tragedy that unfolded. It could be entitled: "Life is a perpetual exile"! He specially created a large crucifixion, inspired by Grünewald. Mary Magdalene and Mary stand at the foot of the cross, left and right. One wrings her hands in pain. The other is already in acceptance and almost "serenity". Christ's right arm and hand are magnified to recall his suffering, while the tortured body begins to enter another dimension. Small fragments testify to the exchanges between these three figures, while anticipating another way of staying with us: "This is my body, given up for you.
